I’m so happy to participate again in this year’s Crochet Cancer Challenge! It’s hard to believe that this is my fifth year joining in the Challenge.
I love this Challenge because I know how much love and care crocheters put into making items to donate. The enthusiasm each year is inspiring!
This year, I picked a beautiful teal color for my design to honor those fighting ovarian cancer. My design is made in memory of my Mother-in-Law and Grandmother, both of whom were incredibly loving, caring, and creative.

The Brook Beanie is a cozy hat that is worked from the top down. The simple stitch variations are fun and easy to follow.
This should be a great project for relaxing crochet. I used a J hook for the design, so it works up quickly.
2025 Crochet Cancer Challenge
During the 2025 Crochet Cancer Challenge, you can download a new hat pattern every weekday and Saturday in October.
With each download, you make a pledge to crochet a hat for someone who has been affected by cancer.
Make as few or as many hats as you like. Crocheting to give things away is one of my favorites, and I know many of you share this passion.
This pattern is featured on October 3, 2025 as part of the 2025 Crochet Cancer Challenge hosted by Sweet Potato 3 in October 2025.

About the Inspiration for the Brook Beanie Pattern
I was inspired this year to make a quick and cozy project. Something easy that would be perfect for donating.
I chose worsted weight yarn again so that the hat would work up fast.
The stitches are variations on simple stitches to make the design fun and easy.
The top-down construction is one of my favorite ways to make a hat while giving it a nice fit.

About the Yarn
I used Lion Brand Heartland for this design. It’s one of my favorite go-to worsted weight yarns.
It’s usually easy to find in a local craft store. And the skeins come in generous sizes which is great for designing and making.
It’s also a nice and soft 100% acrylic so it’s machine washable.
I love the heathered colorways.
Feel free to choose another soft worsted weight yarn too.

- Hat is worked from the top down.
- It is recommended to use the stitch marker to mark the first st of each rnd, and move the marker up as you go along.
- Adjust the hat’s height by subtracting or adding to the number of rounds in the repeat section, or by adding additional rounds of ribbing at the end.
