Do you have any special holiday memories associated with snowfalls? For me, most of these memories are of unexpected snowfalls. During the Christmas season, these have usually meant opportunities to slow down and get outside and play in the snow. For the Hope in the Holidays Crochet Along, this square evokes these unexpected snowfalls. The Textured Snowflake Square is a free afghan square that you can crochet as part of a Christmas blanket.

The Textured Snowflake Square will give you an opportunity to pick a favorite color to surround the textured snowflake. It looks fun with a holiday red or green surrounding the snowflake. Or, some frostier lighter colors look beautiful as well.

About the Yarn for the Christmas Crochet Free Afghan Square
We Crochet generously donated the yarn to the designers for the Crochet Along. The yarn is called Mighty Stitch and is a lovely machine washable blend of 80% acrylic and 20% wool. It comes in a huge variety of colors, and it’s very soft and snuggly. I love the little bit of shine in the yarn, which makes the colors really pop!

- tr in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sl st to first sc to join. (10 sc, 16 hdc, 16 dc, 14 tr, 4 ch-2 sp)
Note: In order to get a square of 8” x 8”, the pattern calls for a round of dc in Rnd 6 below and hdc in Rnd 7 below. If your gauge is tighter or looser, you can adjust these rounds and use taller or shorter stitches if you like to get your square to measure 8” x 8”.
Rnd 6: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next st and in each st around square and work [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in each ch-2 sp for corners, sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (82 dc, 4 ch-2 sp)
Rnd 7: Ch 2 (does not count as st), hdc in same st and in each st around square and work [2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc] in each ch-2 sp for corners, sl st to top of first hdc to join or use the invisible join method to finish Rnd 7 instead. Tutorial for invisible join at https://craftingeachday.com/crochet-invisible-join-tutorial-crochet-in-the-round/. (98 hdc, 4 ch-2 sp)
Finishing: Weave in ends. Block if desired.
