The Susan Shawl is an easy rectangular shawl pattern perfect for spring. The lightweight shawl works up quickly in worsted weight yarn. The openwork stitch patterns look lovely in a classic cream color. Or, have some fun and experiment with bands of contrasting color or stripes.

Both ends of the pattern include two rows of crossed double crochet stitches to add a subtle decorative look. The remainder of the shawl is worked in a relaxing pattern of single crochet stitch rows alternating with two different rows of crochet open work stitches.
About the Inspiration for the Easy Rectangular Crochet Shawl
When I was invited to join the Spring Style Blog Hop, I immediately thought a lightweight shawl would be a great transitional piece for Spring. I wanted something easy to make that would also look elegant with Spring outfits. After playing around with some different stitch combinations, I settled on the design that incorporates crossed double crochet stitches, smaller shell stitches, and another row of crochet open work. The single crochet rows anchor the more open rows and give the shawl structure.
About the Yarn
This pattern is part of the Spring Style Blog Hop and Bundle. We Crochet generously donated the yarn to the designers for the Blog Hop. I chose to use Mighty Stitch because it’s a soft and machine washable blend of 80% acrylic and 20% wool. This yarn gives the shawl a little bit of warmth if you are in a climate where Spring can still be a big chilly. Mighty Stitch also comes in a wide range of colors. In the cream color, there is a little bit of shine that gives the shawl an elegant look.
If you wanted to make a lighter weight shawl, you could choose a worsted weight yarn in cotton or another lighter weight blend.
