The Medley Square is a six-inch crochet square pattern designed for the Melange Blanket CAL hosted by Underground Crafter. This year-long CAL features new square designs each week. You can pick and choose the squares you would like to make and create your own crochet blanket over the course of the year.

The Medley Square is a free crochet pattern for a 6″ x 6″ crochet square in U.S. crochet terminology. It is included for free on the blog below.

What You’ll Need
Yarn: Worsted Weight (#4 Medium) approximately 50 yards.
Shown above: Lion Brand Heartland (100% acrylic), 251yd[230m]/5 oz[142g]: #108Z Carlsbad Caverns (blue), #149R Great Smoky Mountains (gray), less than 1 skein needed for each.
Hook: Size J/10 (6.0 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions: Tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker, tape measure.

Size: 6″ square.
Gauge: Completed square = 6″ x 6″.

dc3tog cluster: follow dc2tog cluster instructions up to *, then insert hook in same st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook (4 loops remain), yarn over, pull through all loops on hook to complete the dc3tog cluster
Medley Square Pattern
Base Ring: Ch 4, join with sl st
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 15 dc in base ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3, do not turn. (16 dc)
Rnd 2: (Ch 3, dc2tog cluster) in same st (counts as dc3tog cluster), (ch 1, dc3tog cluster in next st) two times, * ch 4, sk st, dc3tog cluster in next st, (ch 1, dc3tog cluster in next st) two times; rep from * two times, ch 1, dc in top of first dc2tog cluster, do not turn. (12 dc3tog clusters, 8 ch-1 sps, 4 ch-4 corner sps)
Note: If changing colors, fasten off. Join in corner sp with sl st in second color.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in corner sp, * (ch 1, sk dc3tog cluster, dc in ch-1 sp) two times, ch 1, sk dc3tog cluster, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner sp; rep from * two times, (ch 1, sk dc3tog cluster, dc in ch-1 sp) two times, ch 1, sk dc3tog cluster, 3 dc in corner sp, hdc in top of beg ch 3, do not turn. (32 dc, 12 ch-1 sps, 4 ch-2 corner sps)
Note: When working round 4, the ch-1 spaces count as stitches in the instructions. When working the (ch 1, sk st, dc in next st) five times in rnd 4, the first skipped stitch is a double crochet, then the next three skipped stitches are ch-1 spaces, and the last skipped stitch is s a double crochet again. This is all labeled in the photo below.
Rnd 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc around post of hdc once, * dc in next st, (ch 1, sk st, dc in next st) 5 times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch-2; rep from * two times, (ch 1, sk st, dc in next st) 5 times, 2 dc in corner sp, hdc in top of beg ch 3, do not turn. (40 dc, 20 ch-1 sps, 4 ch-2 corner sps)
Note: Substitute sc or dc for the hdc in round 5 if needed to get a square that is 6” square. If substituting dc, begin rnd 5 with a ch 3 that counts as a dc and dc around the post of the hdc once.
Rnd 5: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), hdc around post of hdc twice, * hdc in each st and ch-1 sp to corner, (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in corner ch-2 sp; rep from * two times, hdc in each st and ch-1 sp to corner, 2 hdc in corner sp, hdc in top of first hdc, fasten off. (76 sts, 4 ch-2 corner sps)
