Bulky yarns can be a broad term that refers to several weights of yarn. The Craft Yarn Council publishes a Standard Yarn Weight System that can take some of the mystery out of bulky weight yarn. These include yarns in the number 5 and 6 weight. Yarns with a yarn weight symbol of 5 can be referred to as bulky, chunky, craft, or rug yarns. And yarns with a yarn weight symbol of 6 can be referred to a super bulky or roving yarns. Bulky number 5 yarns include yarns like Red Heart Soft Essentials and Premier Serenity Chunky. And super bulky number 6 yarns include well-known yarns like Lion Brand Hometown Yarn and Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn. These baby blanket patterns all use either bulky number 5 yarns or super bulky yarn number 6 yarns.
We’ll start with the patterns for number 6 super bulky yarns. You can find the patterns for number 5 bulky yarns towards the bottom of the post.
