This free lace crochet hat pattern will also give you an opportunity to use two lacey stitches as well as the invisible join method. I designed the hat because I wanted a lightweight hat that incorporated some lacey stitches to give it some visual interest. The invisible join method helps give is a polished finished look. If you are new to the crossed treble stitch or the 3-dc shell stitch, you can find links to picture tutorials for the stitches below.

Ideas to Make it Your Own: Choose the color of your choice. Work one or more of the lacey rounds in a different color. Try stripes. Add a row of single or double crochet or both at the end to make the hat longer. Add some decreases in a final round of single crochet to add a tighter edge.
Notes: Hat is worked in rounds from top down. Join each round with a slip stitch before going to next round. Beginning chains of each round do not count as stitches. Do not turn work. Use a marker to indicate the first stitch (not the beginning chains) of each rnd and reposition marker as needed. Invisible join method for crochet in the round recommended for fastening off. A tutorial for this method can be found at https://craftingeachday.com/crochet-invisible-join-tutorial-crochet-in-the-round/. Although beginning chains will create extra stitches at beginning of each round, this is intended to maintain shape of hat. This pattern is written using U.S. crochet terminology. You can find notes about the differences between U.S. and U.K. crochet terminology at https://craftingeachday.com/notes-on-us-versus-uk-crochet-terminology/.

Gauge: This hat uses a relaxed and loose tension. You may need to go up a hook size or more in order to achieve gauge. Check diameter of circle at end of the following rounds to fit the gauge:
End of Rnd 2: 2 ¼ inch diameter
End of Rnd 3: 3 ¼ inch diameter
End of Rnd 4: 4 ¼ inch diameter
End of Rnd 5: 5 ¼ inch diameter
Note: If you are making the Mirabella Hat as a set to go with the Lacey Little Hat, the gauge is different for the two hats. The Mirabella Hat is worked at a looser tension for a slouchier fit. If adjusting tension does not work, try using a larger hook with the Mirabella Hat pattern and a smaller hook with the Lacey Little Hat.
Mirabella Crochet Hat for Adults Pattern
Rnd 1: Ch 4 (beginning chains do not count as stitches in this round and throughout), work 12 dc in 4thch from hook, mark first stitch of rnd with stitch marker and reposition marker to first stitch of each rnd throughout, sl st in beg dc to join, do not turn work – 12 dc.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, work 2 dc in each stitch of previous rnd, sl st in beg dc to join – 24 dc.
Check gauge. Continue checking gauge for next few rounds. Hat is meant to fit slightly loosely. If you are not close to the recommended gauge at the end of rnd 2 or 3, I recommend adjusting your hook size appropriately and starting over.
