Do you have a little bit of velvet yarn leftover from your projects? Use this free pattern to whip up some quick ornaments. Each ornament only takes a small amount of yarn. So, this project is perfect for your partial skeins of leftover yarn. I made several with the leftover yarn from some of my other velvet yarn projects.

The pattern requires a few slight variations on the single crochet, including the single crochet in the back loop only. This project is a great chance to practice these stitch variations while making some squishy soft Christmas ornaments.
About the Inspiration for Velvet Yarn Crochet Ornament
Do you save up your leftover bits of yarn? I know I do. It’s probably why I like stashbusting projects so much. Since I’ve made a few velvet yarn projects this year, I had some leftover yarn near the end of the year. Crochet ornaments seemed like the perfect way to use up the yarn.
Because the ornaments are stuffed, it was also important to find a stitch that didn’t leave gaps between the stitches. The single crochet back loop only is perfect for that reason. I also used the stitch in my Spiral Baby Hat and Spiral Hat patterns to minimize the gaps between stitches.
About the Yarn
Bernat Baby Velvet is a wonderful velvet yarn. It has so much going for it. The skeins are generously sized. The yarn is machine washable. And, it is worsted weight making it versatile for a number of projects. For these reasons, I’ve used it in several projects including my Velvet Hat and Velvet Scarf patterns.
Bernat Velvet yarn would also be a great choice for these ornaments. The Bernat Velvet yarn is slightly heavier than the baby velvet. So, if you choose to use Bernat Velvet, pick a slightly larger hook and expect your ornament to come out a little bigger.
